A c. 1880-84 oil on canvas painting, Portrait of Mary Cassatt, by Edgar Degas (1834-1917), the French impressionist painter. Mary Cassatt (1844-1926), also an impressionist, was good friends with Degas, although she thought this work unflattering (but artistically sound). (National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C.)
