A c. 1899 oil on canvas, Water Lily Pond, by Claude Monet (1840-1926), the French impressionist painter. The Japanese garden with bridge and lily pond was purpose-built by the artist at his Giverny home, and he spent the last 20 years of his life painting 150 canvases of it. (National Gallery, London)
