Illustration
An 1888 oil on canvas, First Spring Flowers, by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) the French post-impressionist painter. Back in France after his visit to the Caribbean, the artist has returned to a more impressionist palette and style but uses his own technique such as the almost exclusive use of vertical brushstrokes.
