An 1889 oil on canvas painting, The Yellow Christ, by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) the French post-impressionist painter. Painted in Pont-Aven and inspired by a painted crucifix. For the artist, yellow represented the purity of Breton peasant life while the autumn colours represent death. (Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, USA)
