An 1881 oil on canvas, Luncheon of the Boating Party, by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) the French impressionist painter. A typical Renoir scene of relaxed young people of different classes in one of the artist’s favourite places, the Restaurant Fournaise, Chatou (he frequently paid for his meals with canvases). The woman on the far left is Aline Charigot, Renoir's future wife. (Phillips Collection, Washington D.C.)
