An 1880 oil on canvas, Man at a Balcony, by Gustave Caillebotte (1848-96) the French impressionist painter. This painting is quintessential Caillebotte with many features the artist repeated regularly in his work: a dramatic sense of depth, strong diagonals, blue-grey tones contrasting with splashes of colour, and reflections, in this case, of the figure and railings in the window on the right.
