Le Souper de Beaucaire, or the Supper at Beaucaire, oil on canvas by Jean-Jules-Antoine Lecomte du Nouÿ, 1869-1894.

The Supper at Beaucaire was a pamphlet written by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1793, defending the necessity of France's Jacobin government right before the Reign of Terror. The pamphlet earned him the attention of Jacobin leader Augustin Robespierre, who published the pamphlet at public expense. Napoleon (figure standing on the far right) is seen explaining his point of view to his fellow dinner guests.
