Depiction of the Siege of Lille from 24 September to 8 October 1792 by the Austrian army during the War of the First Coalition. The siege was lifted at the approach of French General Dumouriez's Army of the North, and the Austrians retreated to Belgium, where they were defeated at the Battle of Jemappes. Oil on canvas by Louis Joseph Watteau, 1794.
