A mid-19th-century painting by Charles Becher Young showing the battle of Chillianwala on 13 January 1849 during the Second Anglo-Sikh War (1848-9) between the British East India Company (EIC) and the Sikh Empire. The EIC did not gain a decisive victory due to the high cost in men and casualties but did, ultimately, win the war (National Army Museum, London)
