Freytag and Prince Adolphus Captured at Hondschoote Download Full Size Image

Field Marshal Freytag and Prince Adolphus of Great Britain are captured by French troops during a retreat on the first day of the Battle of Hondschoote, 6 September 1793, during the War of the First Coalition. Prince Adolphus quickly escaped, but Freytag, who had sustained a wound, remained a prisoner until he was freed by a Hanoverian counterattack hours later. Colored engraving by M. Brown, 1794.
