Portrait of General Jean-Nicolas Houchard (1739-1793) who led the French Army of the North to victory against the Coalition at the Battle of Hondschoote, 6-8 September 1793. Houchard's failure to follow up on his victory led to his arrest and execution on 15 November 1793, a victim of the Reign of Terror. Painting by Georges Rouget, 1835.
