Remains of the commanding officer's residence at the Roman fort of Apsarus in modern-day Georgia.
The fort (known today as the Gonio Fortress) is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of Batumi near the Turkish border. It was the largest Roman stronghold along the Colchian littoral (the Pontus Limes).
The third construction period of the building is dated to the reign of Hadrian (r. 117-138 CE), perhaps on the occasion of Arrian’s visit in the early 130s CE. The entire floor was decorated with a Roman mosaic made of multicoloured pebble fragments.
