Dr. Charles A. Eastman (also known as Ohiyesa, l. 1858-1939), a Native American Sioux author, activist, and physician. Eastman arrived at Wounded Knee to care for the wounded following the Wounded Knee Massacre of 29 December 1890 and provided a firsthand account of the experience. Photo by Wells Moses Sawyer, 1897.
