Fresco showing a priest wearing a mask of Anubis, from the Temple of Isis in Pompeii, Naples National Archaeological Museum. The cult of Isis was widely spread in the Hellenistic period because of the religious links that the Greeks maintained with Egypt. It was particularly popular in Pompeii because of the city's strong commercial ties with that region.
