A map illustrating the Castles of the Loire, or "Châteaux de la Loire," the numerous (over 300 castles) grand and historic castles located in the Loire Valley region of France. Many of these castles, built primarily during the Renaissance period from the 15th to the 17th centuries, originated as medieval fortresses that were remodeled and adapted for leisure and luxurious living. Renowned for their architectural beauty, elaborate gardens, and rich history, notable examples include Château de Chambord, Château de Chenonceau, and Château de Villandry. The Loire Valley, often called the "Garden of France," is a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its cultural significance and scenic landscapes.
