The photo resonates in the line from the Cheyenne legend Old Woman's Water and the Buffalo Cap where the narrator places the events of the story in the time "when the Cheyenne were far on the other side of the Missouri River where there are many lakes" (Grinnell, By Cheyenne Campfires, 257).
