"Join or Die", a political cartoon attributed to Benjamin Franklin or James Turner, published in the Pennsylvania Gazette, 1754.

Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.

Published during the French and Indian War, the cartoon was used to advocate for the adoption of Benjamin Franklin's Albany Plan of Union. The colonies are depicted as severed pieces of a snake (the New England colonies are lumped together).
