A photograph of Carl Goerdeler (1884-1945). Goerdeler was a conspirator in the 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. Goerdeler, if the attempt had been succesful, was to have replaced Hitler as the chancellor of Germany. (Goerdeler family and the Carl and Anneliese Goerdeler Foundation)
