The failed British night assault of 14 August 1814 was the climactic moment of the Siege of Fort Erie, during the War of 1812. Though the Americans prevailed, they were ultimately forced to abandon the fort and retreat from Canadian soil. Painting by E. C. Watmough, c. 1840.
