A 50:1 scale model of the Second Temple, this detailed replica was originally commissioned by Hans Kroch for the Holyland Hotel in memory of his son, Jacob, following Israel's War of Independence. It was designed by Hebrew University's Professor of Archaeology, Michael Avi-Yonah, in 1966CE and was later relocated to the Israel Museum in 2006 CE.
The model covers nearly one acre and recreates the layout and architectural style of 66 CE Jerusalem during the dawn of the Great Revolt against the Romans. The revolt would result in the destruction of the Temple as well as the city in 70 CE.
