A Roman wall painting depicting Daedalus and Pasiphaë, wife of King Minos of Crete. In Greek mythology, Daedalus made the queen a wooden bull so that she might wait inside it to attract the attention of a bull she was in love with. The offspring of this union was the Minotaur. Daedalus' son Icarus is shown at a workbench. From the House of the Vettii, Pompeii, 1st century CE.
