Two thirds of this stela were lost due to reuse as building material. It documents a royal visit to Elephantine. Ptolemy IX and Cleopatra III, his mother and co-regent, granted privileges to the priests of Khnum, a local ram god. The scene on the top, shows royal offerings to deities in Egyptian style with hieroglyphic captions. The main text is in Greek, the official tongue under the Ptolemies. The Rosetta Stone, of Ptolemy V, records royal favors in both Greek and Egyptian. Ptolemaic Period, reign of Ptolemy IX, 115 BCE. From Aswan, presumably from Elephantine, temple of Khnum, Egypt.
