This unusual medium-sized hanging bowl (made of copper-alloy) displays a curious mix of styles and techniques. The enamelled disc seen on the base is typically Celtic, while the open-work ring surrounding it is inlaid with stamped foil that is more typically Anglo-Saxon. Perhaps the bowl was made by a craftsman trained in both traditions, or in workshop where Celtic and Anglo-Saxon craftsmen worked together. Donated by Mrs. Edith M. Pretty. 6th to early 7th century CE. From the ship-burial mound 1 at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, England, UK. (The British Museum, London).
