Khachkar Used as Pillar at Zorats Church

Zorats Church is a church built on a hill overlooking the Yeghegis River in present-day Armenia. The church was built in the early 14th century CE and dedicated by Bishop Stepanos Tarsayitch who was a grandson of an Orbelian prince. Armenia was at this time a contested territory between various Turkish tribes. Surrounding the Zorats Church are a number of exquisitely carved khachkars dating to the 10th-13th centuries CE and tombstones dating from the 15-17th centuries CE.
