This ritual object, a pottery censer, was made in the shape of a prism, with superimposed sphinx and lion reliefs on both sides. The small square openings on the front and the back were for the smoke of the fumigated plants to come out. The smoke with the animal depictions on the sides would give it a mysterious animated appearance. It is interesting that this censer, thought to belong to the Canaanites, was found broken, with sling stones, an evidence showing the change in religious beliefs. There were two censers of this type found in the 7th layer of Megiddo; these had painted decorations instead of reliefs. 13th to 12th century BCE. From Tell Ta'anek, in modern-day Israel.
