The magnificent Pont du Gard spanning the Gardon River in southern France. This feat of Roman engineering and architecture was built in the first century CE to bring water from a spring at Uzès to the Roman colony of Nemausus, modern-day Nîmes, along a 50 km / 31 mi aqueduct.
