Biography
I would like to gain more experience in public history. A lot of my degree deals with dense academic material appealing to a niche and limited audience. I think this type of history is important but would also like to delve more into how that research can be applied into different mediums to the general public such as through website articles or documentaries that are likely to reach a much larger readership.
Personally, I think history is crucial to helping societies understand themselves and I think it matters increasingly in the digital age where there is so much misinformation online. The importance of factual research has been exacerbated recently with the increase in use of AI that we take for granted despite its unreliability at times. It's not a new phenomenon, it has always been very difficult to differentiate between social memory - which is the recent unofficial recollection of social groups - and the study of history itself. Often when I read new research I think that it tells us just as much about the current political or economic state of when it was published as the period it was trying to investigate.
