A surprising discovery was made in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do on July 8, 1971. From the tomb of King Muryeong, several important national treasures were excavated, and moreover, it was the first ancient tomb that has been positively identified among the royal tombs from the Three Kingdoms Period in Korea.
Baekje's 25th King Muryeong and his Queen were resting in this royal tomb. At the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, visitors can witness the magnificent abilities of Baekje's artisans who were skilful in working with metals, as well as Baekje's excellence in science and art.
