Glassmaking Technique: Roman Mold-Blown Glass

Mold-blown glass is made by blowing hot glass into a mold made of clay, wood, or metal. The glass is forced against the inner surfaces of the mold and assumes its shape, together with any decoration that it bears. Watch a demonstration of this ancient method in this video, narrated by Karol Wight, Curator of Antiquities and featuring footage courtesy of Mark Taylor and David Hill-the Roman Glassmakers.
